Doug Gilmer will be signing his new book, "Backcountry Devotions", as well as doing a cross-promotion with Bardin-Marsee publishers and their Waterproof Bibles on Saturday, March 2, at the Family Christian Store on Sudley Road in Manassas. There will be a drawing at the end of the event for a special outdoor prize pack which will include great items for the outdoor enthusiast.
"Backcountry Devotions" is written to keep one connected to their faith while on the trail, in the camp, while exploring the backcountry or, wilderness, or just sitting in a favorite chair with a cup of coffee, while dreaming they are in these wild places. This is not a "man-only" book, it was written to be relevant to anyone, man or woman, young or old, who loves spending time in the outdoors.
Doug Gilmer is The Backcountry Chaplain In addition to offering spiritual care and resources to those working in the outdoor industry he is also a professor and and the director of the Adventure Leadership and Outdoor Ministry academic program at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. A respected outdoor writer and communicator for a number of outdoor publications, Doug also serves on the Board of Directors of the Professional Outdoor Media Association. He is a graduate of Liberty University, completed his seminary education at Luther Rice Seminary, as well as a graduate degree from Virginia Tech. Doug's ministry is unique. Being a "tentmaker", he has spent over 20 years in law enforcement and the military (he is still an active reservist) and a lifetime pursuing outdoor adventure; this background provides a unique platform from which Doug communicated equally well to adults, youth, and college students. His ability to share stories about his life and the outdoors and apply them within a biblical context is evident in his own unique, relevant, passionate and often humorous style.
