Walk For Autism Speak
The Sligo Challenger Pathfinder Club ir organizeing a walk for Autism Speaks, specifically, the Voyager unit or the 9th grade class are the ones who are in charge of organizing a walk to fulfill our community service requirement. We will also have the support of the whole Sligo Challenger Pathfinder Club. Recently, autism has been recognized as an epidemic being noticed in kids 3-17. In fact, it is estimated that 1 in 88 children are likely to develop autism spectrum disorder and the cost of lifelong care for those with autism is 3.2 million dollars per person! Not only for these reasons have we decided to organize this event, but because most of our pathfinders have met and/or are close to someone who has autism.
We are seeking of your assistance! We would like you to promote for our cause and help us to advertise it. The walk will be 2 hours lonf, 1 hour to walk forward to the end of the location and 1 hour to walk back to the beginning of the location. The location will be from WAU Commons to Colesville Road through Sligo Creek trail (Takoma Park, maryland, 7600 Flower Av. 20912). The date will be during one of the days of WAU Alumni weekend, April 14. The time will be 1pm and to 3pm, since we are organizing the walk to be at least 2 hours. Our goal is to have at least 100 people to come to the walk.
The walk is for everyone no matter what their age is to come to a healthy fitness event that helps to foster a cause. We would like to do a pledge of at least $10 per participant that participated for the walk. All proceeds will of course immediately go to Autism Speaks once you donate it here on the site. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and maybe even promote this event!
