CHIP solution to your New Year's resolution

By Retzer Cariaga

Every New Year about half of the people in the Western world commit to reinvent their lifestyle towards self-betterment – New Year's resolution. Sadly, only 8% of the people succeed. Complete Health Improvement Program or CHIP, is a lifestyle modification program scientifically proven to lower weight, cholesterol levels, blood sugar, and normalize high blood pressure. It is primarily run by faith-based communities throughout the US and Canada with over 50,000 graduates. Your Filipino-American Capital SDA Church ( will host the CHIP program starting February 22, 2014 at 4216 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville, MD.

If your New Year's resolution is to improve your lifestyle, CHIP will help you achieve your goals. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 70% of the diseases in the US is lifestyle related. Excess body weight, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases are largely a result of poor dietary choices, lack of physical activity, low stress coping ability, and even neglect of minute lifestyle choices such as water intake, fresh air, and sun exposure.

CHIP will help you set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time-bounded) objectives to ensure you reach your goal. Sometimes, willpower is not enough. You need individuals who can coach you to achieve your goals. When you enroll in the CHIP program you are guaranteed the social support you need to reach your lifestyle goals. Family support is also highly important in your commitment to self-improvement. If you plan on enrolling in the CHIP program, you might as well have another member of your household join you.

If you would really want to stick to the CHIP health principles, you can always come back each year for free, or volunteer yourself as a coach to help others.

CHIP is a not-for-profit program run by volunteers of faith-based Adventist communities as a health outreach to the community at large. Your registration fee of $399 per individual will include materials (books, pedometer, water bottle, etc.), cooking demos, heart healthy meals, physical assessment and blood work by trained professionals at the beginning and at the end of the program, and one on one coaching.

The cheapest way you could get the result from a live-in lifestyle center is CHIP. You do not have to pay several thousand dollars to a live-in lifestyle center to get the same result. You do not have to leave home or work.  CHIP is really cheap!
