Scouting for BricksTM A World Class LEGO Fan Event

Purcellville, VA Members of Purcellville Boy Scout Troop 39, charted to Saint Peter's Episcopal Church in Purcellville, struck upon a novel way of raising funds for their campouts and activities last year. The troop sponsored a LEGO fan event that drew over 2,600 visitors and caught the attention of top name LEGO related vendors and exhibitors from as far away as California. The boys of Troop 39 have been hard at work planning an even better event for this year. Scheduled for Saturday, May 3, 11am-5pm and Sunday, May 4 from 11-5pm at Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia, Scouting for BricksTM is a family-friendly event open to the public. Tickets are $5 per person and available only at the door.

Visitors will be amazed at over 30,000 square feet chock full of LEGO related exhibits and merchandise. The venue features an extensive play area with tens of thousands of LEGO and DUPLO blocks to let young and old imaginations soar. The Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area LEGO Train Club will have an entire city built of LEGOs replete with skyscrapers and fast moving trains on display. Ashburn Robotics will host a robotic scrimmage on Saturday which is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The Great Ball Contraption, a YouTube sensation, will display mesmerizing feats of engineering and ingenuity. Back by popular acclaim are the live Star Wars 'Stormtroopers' from the 501st Legion who will be roaming the exhibit halls in search of young Jedis. The concession stand will be selling great hot lunches and snacks.

When asked what sparked the idea for the brick fair, Troop 39 Scoutmaster Joseph Gleason stated, "Many of the boys in our troop are LEGO fanatics who frequently exhibit at and attend regional brick fairs, so we got the idea of hosting our own as a way for the boys to earn funds to cover camping equipment and activities." Senior Patrol Leader Joel Eager, age 16, remarked, "The whole troop completely enjoyed Scouting for Bricks 2013, so we're very excited for this year's. Both the scout and adult leadership have worked very hard to make sure it's an even bigger success than last year."
