[thumb:583:l] Each summer I look forward to this time of year becasue I love going to county fairs. It takes me back to my childhood when I grew up in rural Pennsylvania. The animals, the smells (of animals), the produce, the 4-H displays, the food (all deep fried and not good for you, funnel cake, my favorite!). I was thrilled when my kids were old enough for me to drag them to the fair at an age where they might actually remember it. As I had hoped they were thrilled with the animals, loved the food, but one thing I hadn’t thought about—the rides, they really wanted to spend most of their time going on the rides. You know the ones–the old carousel, fine I can deal with that. But the other ones that spin around and look like they were built in the 1950’s, I’m not a big fan of them. I imagine as my little ones (now 2 ½ and 4) get older, that will be their favorite part and the animals and 4-H displays will start to take more and more of a backseat with them. I can only hope they’ll get excited about the animals again and pass that on to their children some day. Here’s to looking forward to some good old fashioned fun! Enjoy!
