  • Let ‘em off the hook

All the drama surrounding the TLC show “Jon&Kate Plus 8″ has me thinking about the little things in my relationship that can lead up to big dramas in my own house.
My husband, Greg and I, have been married for 10 years.  It’s the simple things that can derail us after a long day at work and balancing the kids.  A dish left “soaking” in the sink, taking out the trash, keeping up with the kid’s schedule.  If I get bent out of shape about something that can ruin our family time in the evening.
So, instead of drawing attention to those small dramas and create a major drama…I find myself just “letting ‘em off the hook.”  And he let’s me off the hook too…  At the end of the day we still want to be each other’s best friend, teammate, and partner.  Not advesaries.
My friend, Chante, recently sent me this article from Redbook titled; “What Keeps a Man Crazy in Love?” with her subject line, “Does this stuff really work?”.
Chante is single, and believing God to be married.  She inspires me to be more intentional in the way I love my husband.  She is amazing on how she prepares herself for marriage by studying, praying, even perfecting her culinary craft.  That is going to be one happy man!
So, here’s my opinion on what works and doesn’t work for my man from this article.  Feel free to leave your thoughts on “What Keeps a Man Crazy in Love?”
    What Works for me:
Play Board Games….but every once in a while let him win!  ha-ha
Give the Perfect Backrub ….this is how I “wooed” him…he says he married me because of the first backrub/head massage I gave him
Tie His Tie for Him…Greg would probably really appeciate this since he hates doing it himself and always looks for my approval.  But, I do a morning radio show…hmm…
Make a Mean Steak…goes without saying….especially if he has a buddy over and even his buddy loves the steak…than you make him look like a big man in front of his friends…oh yeah…they eat that up.
Have a Conversation with His Boss …I can have the fun and friendly conversation that he can’t….I’m good at this…and he likes it when I make a good impression
Make Heart-Melting Chocolate-Chip Cookies….YES YES.  my mother’s recipe is the best…get it from her here on her blog
Kick His Style Up a Notch …he likes it when I shop for him…as long as I don’t spend too much money!
Not on the List:  Getting involved in Sports with him! Whether it’s watching the game with him, or going on a jog or bike ride…the sports lovin’ man loves a sports lovin’ woman!
    What doesn’t work
Wake Him Up in the Morning…he wouldn’t rather me let him sleep as long as possible…and not wake him up…but he loves it when I have breakfast waiting for him
Give Him a Barbershop Shave…this would totally freak Greg out
Throw Him a Super Surprise Party…no way…Greg would not want a party
Quote at Least Three Lines from The Godfather….it goes without saying for Greg it would be quoting from Star Trek or HAL from Space Odyssey 2001….”I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.”

Thank you Amanda for your “Let him off the hook” story this morning. We all know that God sends us messages in different ways, I believe this was one of them. I to have been married for 10 years and have been having a really hard time with it for a short while. I have been praying alot and listen to the song “I’m waiting” from the movie Fireproof. I know I am not perfect and I am trying to be better. To give you an example of how strange things happen I have been nagging my husband to get rid of a couch and love seat since March, understand that I have 2 sets in my living room and it is driving me nuts. I finally stopped the nagging and today, on his own, he took it to the dump! Thank you again for this morning. I look forward to listening to you and Brennan every Morning I can!
