Successful at Living a Healthy Life…and Marriage.

He’s known as the man that brought exercise from the gym to our living rooms…Jack LaLanne, the fitness guru who inspired television viewers to trim down, eat well, and pump iron for decades before diet and exercise became a national obsession, died on Sunday. He was 96. He ate healthy and exercised every day of his life up until the end.  He once said, “The only way you can hurt the body is not use it,” and “Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it’s never too late.”

He was successful at Living a healthy life, but also a married life.  His wife, Elaine, of 51 years said.”I have not only lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for.”

    Family Secrets

Oprah’s got a big show today.  She’s set to reveal a “Big Family Secret”.  Her website says:  ”Breaking News: Oprah Reveals a Hidden Family Secret Over the past 25 years, The Oprah Show has reunited a lot of people. But this time, Oprah is the one being reunited. Hear the family secret she’s been keeping for months, straight from her.”

Gotta hand it to her, most of us keep family secrets…well secrets.  There’s something about Oprah and how she is so open and honest about her life and loved for it.  Makes us think about the things that we hide from each other and from God.  Hiding things eats us up inside.  Getting out the truth feels so good…and let’s admit it, everyone has Family secrets…

    Eating on the Go

The final snap food decision that could cost you: Take-out. A plain cheese pizza is loaded with grease and over a thousand calories. So when it comes to ordering out, Japanese food is the healthiest option.

Experts say that most sushi rolls are prepared with little or no oil, and they’re packed with protein and nutrients from the seafood and veggies. Remember, not all sushi is created equally. Avoid anything spicy, because it’s probably code for “drenched in high-calorie spicy mayo.”

    Prayer for the Family

We know that finding a quiet moment during your day to talk to God is hard, because it’s hard for us too.  So, we are starting something new today.  Amanda has found this amazing resource to motherhood called “Inspired to Action”, a friend of hers who started a ministry to inspire moms.  Kat developed this Prayer Calendar for Mothers that you can download for free.  So as you are driving to work or school we will help you harness that quiet moment and give you a quick prayer to say for your family while you are on your way.  Every day will be a new Godly characteristic and a scripture verse to go along with it.

Today’s Prayer for the Family:  Servant Heart  ”Lord, please help my children develop servant hearts; that they may serve wholeheartedly as if they were serving the Lord, not me”. (Ephesians 6:7)

    Build Your Confidence

New research shows if you play a game that you are really good at before a big presentation at work or a big test at school you actually perform better.

They say the game builds your confidence and you take that feeling right into the test or presentation.

Guess there really is something positive to the gaming sensation “Angry Birds”…

Family Safety Tip:  Reusable Grocery Bags with Lead

When it comes to those reusable bags you get at the grocery store…they have lead levels that are higher than the legal limit…and it’s not the bag itself but the bag inserts that contained the high lead levels… Safeway bag inserts had the highest level of lead, second only to the CVS bags that were recalled in November.

    Brenformation (Brennan’s newscast)

Plan ahead for crowded Metro trains and street closures today as thousands descend for the annual March for Life in Washington.  People will start gathering on the National Mall at Fourth Street at around 11 a.m. for the noontime rally.  Fourth Street, Northwest, will be closed between Independence and Pennsylvania avenues.  Also, 7th Street will be blocked from the Verizon Center to the National Mall.  Then, watch out for rolling street closures as participants march to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fitness guru Jack LaLanne died yesterday…he was 96. Died from complications of pneumonia. cause was respiratory failure due to pneumonia. His wife said “I haven’t just lost my husband and a great American icon, but the best friend and most loving partner anyone could ever hope for. They were married for 51 years.

We may have one of the worst commutes in the US, some of the rudest people, but we have some of the most generous people here when it comes to giving to charities. Alexandria tops the list of the most generous online givers. Arlington is number 3, and DC is number 5. People in our area are living a wired lifestyle.

The lineup for Super Bowl 45 in Dallas is all set. The Green Bay Packers will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, February 6th.

    Positive Thoughts

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

The Son of God became a man so that men could become sons of God.

Forgiving means setting a prisoner free, and discovering that prisoner is you.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy

For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Get rid of anything in your life today that’s not in line with your dreams for tomorrow.
