Hairstyles, family cars, and logos
Considering a new logo for a business is a bit like deciding on a new hairstyle. Perm, curly, layered, long, shoulder length, a bob, … ? if you’re a guy, sideburns, just a little on the sides and top, or, perhaps the ever fashionable shaved look (do I hear a mullet? … cue chirping crickets).
You hope you’ll look good in one of them, but sometimes you just don’t know until the barber or stylist is done. Better when you can use one of those computer programs that takes a picture of your face and then drops a new hairstyle around it, so you can get some idea of how you’d look.
In the case of our logo, we’ve had it for almost a decade, and it’s like a good family car. It’s served us well, and one of our options on the table is new tires, a transmission overhaul, and perhaps a new paint job. Or, we can trade in the faithful family servant for a spiffy new ride. So, we want to know what you think. We’ll be putting up a web poll on the main website for voting on various options when we’re a little further along, but in the meantime, we’d like to get your thoughts on the logos below.
They are preliminary, first drafts, not final concepts, so your mileage may vary. Feel free to post a comment. Do any of them have promise, or should we cloister the graphic design people together in a small room yet again, and and pelt them with M&M’s until they produce satisfactory results? Which one or ones grab your attention? Why? What would you suggest as we look at our different options? Be specific, por favor. “Yeah, I like that swirly thingy next to the W”, etc. It may be our logo, but we’re all going to have to look at it together.
