    In Sickness and in Health

When you’re standing up at the altar saying your vows at your wedding you don’t think the “in sickness” part is really going to happen to you.  Mark Kelly, Astronaut and husband to Arizona Congresswoman Christine Giffords is living that reality right now as he sits by his wife’s bedside after she was shot in the head and survived.  Diane Sawyer’s interview with him aired yesterday.  She asked him if he thought she knew he was there.  He responded confidently explaining that as he holds her hand she plays with his wedding ring…taking it off his finger and placing it on his thumb…something she always used to do.  It’s something out of a movie.  Maybe it will be called “The Astronaut and the Congresswoman”

How to loose a pound a week

If you cut 500 calories a day experts say you loose a pound a week.  Here are some ways:
Swap your desk chair for a stability ball could burn 350 calories a week
If you drink 2 cans of soda a day swap it for water and cut 300 calories
Jogging up to one hour can burn up to 500 calories
Hold the Mayo…each serving (1 tbsp) has 100 calories
Gardening for an hour can burn up to 500 calories
Swapping butter for margarine can save you up to 50 calories
Bicycling for an hour can burn up to 500 calories
Swap a bagel for an english muffin.
A bagel can be 350 calories without cream cheese…An english muffin is 189
For every hour you sleep you’re saving 100 calories
Get more sleep…Lack of sleep can trigger a hunger hormone.
Each extra hour of sleep can translate into 100 calories that you won’t consume,
Leave food on your plate.  Leaving a quarter of your food on your plate at a restaurant can save you up to 500 calories.
    Skip the 250 calorie cupcake!

Is College worth it for your kids?

Kids are often told that to make it life, they must go to college. They work hard to get there. Parents and kids drain savings or take out huge loans to pay for it all.  And what do kids end up learning? The answer: not much. A study of more than 2,300 undergraduates found 45 percent of students show no significant improvement in the key measures of critical thinking, complex reasoning and writing by the end of their sophomore years.

Tell us what are some life lessons that you learned in college that you can’t put a pricetag on.  For Amanda, she says, it was the an opportunity to make faith her own.  It was all of a sudden her choice to get involved in a church group.  She participated in Greek InterVarsity Christian Fellowship in college, and it changed her life.

Shake it off and Step Up

A farmer had a donkey that fell into a well. Since the well was dry and the donkey most likely would die, he decided to get his neighbors together and fill the well with dirt, taking care of two problems with one solution. They started to shovel in the dirt, and as they did, the donkey got the bright idea that if he wanted to live, he’d have to shake the dirt off his back and stomp it down with his hoofs to make it compact. Every time the farmer and his neighbors would shovel in dirt, the donkey would shake it off his back and stomp it down. Hours went by like this until the dirt was so high underneath his feet that he was able to walk out of the well and thru the crowd. Great lesson…tough times will come but our survival can come by not letting it get us down, but shaking it off and stepping up higher.

    Brenformation (aka Brennan’s news)

Can’t imagine what it would feel like to have someone close to you get hurt the way Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords did. Her husband, Mark Kelly, was talking with Diane Sawyer about it yesterday saying his wife is a fighter and that he has no doubt she’ll make a full recovery. She’s expected to move to a rehabilitation center from the hospital within weeks.

Baby was born on i-97 yesterday during the ice storm…this woman was pregnant with her second child, on the way to the hospital with her husband and 18-month old yesterday…didn’t quite make it…baby came on the side of the road…the dad caught him. 7 pounds 2 ounces, mom and baby are healthy and doing fine. He says there wasn’t a single complication other than the baby coming sooner than expected.

Driving the BW parkway is so picturesque…all the trees and greenery…and that’s got some people concerned that it may not stay that way if they add a couple of lanes to the parkway…they’re thinking about doing that…got an exploratory committee looking into it now to add a lane on either side. just get noisier and more polluted

The journey starts tonight…a few months from tonight someone’s dream of being a star will come true…until May though, we’ll have to hear a lot of bad singers…American Idol starts tonight with new judges

    Positive Thoughts

This is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

Don’t choose to keep remembering what God has chosen to forget.

Appreciate yourself by allowing yourself the opportunities to grow

Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful.

When you set goals, something inside of you starts saying, “Let’s go, let’s go,” and ceilings start to move up.

If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re very scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere
